Screen Printed Backpatch - Apocalyptic Lamb

And […] I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes […]. Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people [...] from every tribe and nation [...]“ Revelation 5:6/9

The Apocalyptic Lamb is one of the central symbols of the Book of Revelation, an early christian scripture, that is undoubtedly the most mysterious, concerning and therefore most fascinating of all the books the Bible consists of. The Revelation or “Apocalypse”, is written as a report of an anonymous man that calls himself “John” and whose identity is unclear up to this date. The Revelation tells its reader about the last days of the earth as we know it and the many catastrophes and plagues that'll come upon it and its inhabitants in its last days. These calamities are triggered by opening the seven seals of a book or scroll that John sees in his visions and that only a mysterious Lamb is able to open and thus initiate the beginning of the end.

This illustration depicts the above cited passage: The slain lamb with the seven horns and eyes lying on the open book with the seven seals, while its blood drips into a chalice that is flanked by two human skulls – symbols for the end of humanity on earth. Above the composition the all-seeing-eye watches over and indicates the supernatural presence that - according to religious beliefs - was the cause for the creation and the fall of humanity, which is also denoted by the Alpha and Omega on both sides of the Apocalyptic Lamb.
