Screen printed patch "Little Demon", silver ink on black canvas
In medieval times little mischievous looking demons were often placed all over buildings, especially on cathedrals, to serve as „apotropaions“. It was believed that these apotropaions, that were often used as Gargoyles, had the power to guard sacred places from evil with their unpleasant appearance that should scare bad entities off by showing them their own ugliness. This little demon shall guard whatever it is sewn upon with his mischievous looks and mirror all bad thoughts back to its initiator and thus keeping its owner away from negative intentions and emotions.
ca. 14 x 9,5 cm. This patch is designed and screen printed by myself in my home. Each patch is printed and cut individually by hand. The colours I use are eco friendly water based screen printing inks, the fabric is black canvas.
IMPORTANT INFO: After they're sewn on the patches are machine-washable at 40°C. To avoid fraying please make sure to fold the edge inward with an iron prior to sewing it on and use stitches that go around the edge (like buttonhole stitches) rather than stitching parallel to the edge.
