Screen Printed Patch "Moon-Goat"

The anthropomorphic goat, as well as some horned deities, like Pan in Greek or Cernnunos in Celtic mythology, were associated with the feral and untamed side of humankind. Since these attributes became unmoral during the Christianization of the western world, the image of a horned deity became pretty much the image of the Antichrist and thus the visualization of Evil itself. Later on writers like Levi seized the idea of Baphomet, an idol worshipped by the Templars during the Middle Ages and the cause for many accusations of heresy followed by executions for worshiping a false god. With a hermaphroditic body and the head of a goat, Levi's “Sabbatical Goat” soon became a symbol associated with magick and the occult knowledge and thus with everything the christian religion condemned. The crescent with the edges facing up, refers to the symbol of “the Horned One”, a modern, pagan interpretation of the male divine, while the serpent – often interpreted as symbol for wisdom – that touches the third eye of the Goat refers to gaining perception beyond ordinary sight and higher, transcendent knowledge.
