KALI - screen printed backpatch with silver ink on black canvas
Worshiped as Mother of the Universe, Kali is one of the most important deities in Hinduism. Despite her fearsome appearance and the terrible way she is depicted – she is a deity of Death after all – she is seen as loving protector, combining two seemingly opposite facets. But with Death comes Renewal and Kali is the one who plants the seeds and also crops the harvest. The sickle she is holding in one of her 4 hands refers to this aspect of her. Another of her hands holds a severed head – symbolizing the death of the Ego and thus the triumph over anything worldly, which is also denoted by her third eye – the eye that sees beyond the visible realm.
ca. 32 x 32 cm / ca. 12,6 x 12,6 inches. This patch is designed and printed by myself in my small home studio using silver water based screen printing ink on black sturdy canvas.
IMPORTANT INFO: After they're sewn on the patches are machine-washable at 40°C. To avoid fraying please make sure to fold the edge inward with an iron prior to sewing it on and use stitches that go around the edge (like buttonhole stitches) rather than stitching parallel to the edge.
