Screen printed backpatch "The Triumph of Death"

Originating in the Middle Ages the subject of the “Triumph of Death” is another motif in the “memento mori” tradition, just like the “Danses Macabres”, which can be found in numerous depictions in all genres of art – from miniature to mural to sculpture. The Triumph of Death reminds the viewer of the impermanence of everything worldly, that can be gone from one day to another. All material things are worthless in the eyes of Death, for he doesn't care about who stands in his way – everyone will end the same when Death decides to bring war and calamity upon humankind. The illustration shows Death triumphing upon a pile of corpses while the village the scene plays in stands in flames.

ca. 32 x 32 cm. This patch is designed and screen printed by myself in my home studio. Each patch is printed and cut individually by hand. The colours I use are eco friendly water based screen printing inks, the fabric is black cotton canvas.

IMPORTANT INFO: After they're sewn on the patches are machine-washable at 40°C. To avoid fraying please make sure to fold the edge inward with an iron prior to sewing it on and use stitches that go around the edge rather than stitching parallel to the edge.
