Screen printed patch "Seven Sorrows", silver ink on black canvas
The popular depiction of a heart pierced by seven swords or daggers is a symbol originating in Roman catholic iconography and is denoting the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary. For seven were the sorrows that the "Mater Dolorosa" had to endure and that were all linked to the persecution, suffering and death of her son. It is a symbol for deep mourning but also for hope, since ultimately her son came back to life and transcended to immortality.
ca. 13x15 cm. This patch is designed and screen printed by myself in my home. Each patch is printed and cut individually by hand. The colours I use are eco friendly water based screen printing inks, the fabric is black canvas.
IMPORTANT INFO: After they're sewn on the patches are machine-washable at 40°C. To avoid fraying please make sure to fold the edge inward with an iron prior to sewing it on and use stitches that go around the edge (like buttonhole stitches) rather than stitching parallel to the edge.
