Screen printed backpatch - The Magician

Out of the 22 Tarot cards that the Major Arcana is composed of, the Magician carries the number one – the symbolical number of a new beginning. New beginnings and new turns are in fact what the Magician stands for – for he is the subject that turns intentions to fruition by combining the spiritual world/the universe with the material world and turns energy into action and/or matter. As tools to manifest his intentions and thus work his “magick” the magician has the four suits of the Tarot at hand, which are the cup, sword, wand and the pentactle, that are also symbolic for the four elements that are illustrated on and above the magicians altar. The presence of the Magician himself is denoted by the all seeing eye inside the pentacle while the connection between the spiritual and the material world are symbolized by the rising smoke as well as the tears dripping into the cup on the magician's altar. This card tells the Tarot reader that he has the tools to manifest his dreams at hand – the only thing he has to do is to set his intentions and be aware of what he truly wants to come to him.

ca. 42 x 27 cm / ca. 16,5'' x 10,4''. This patch is designed by myself and screen printed by my partner in our home. Each patch is printed and cut individually by hand. The colours I use are eco friendly water based screen printing inks, the fabric is black canvas that I sourced from a small local fabric store.

IMPORTANT INFO: After they're sewn on the patches are machine-washable at 40°C. To avoid fraying please make sure to fold the edge inward with an iron prior to sewing it on and use stitches that go around the edge (like buttonhole stitches) rather than stitching parallel to the edge.
