Art Print - Erinyes

Alekto, Megaera and Tisiphone are the names of the three sisters and chthonic goddesses of vengeance in Greek Mythology that are referred to as “the Erinyes”. They are the advocates of those who have been wronged and call upon them for vengeance. The three sisters live in the Greek counterpart of “Hell” - the Erebos - and are responsible for overseeing the torturing of the souls of those who have harmed their fellow humans. They appear in numerous ancient, medieval and modern stories and legends, such as Aeschylus' “Oresteia”, Dante's “Divina Commedia” or Goethe's “Iphigenie auf Taurus” and are often described as fearful, monstrous women with snake hair, wings or even dogs' heads.
