Art Print - Goat Night

Since ancient times the goat has been associated with the feral and untamed side of nature. Deities like Pan and creatures like the Satyrs who had traits or body parts of a goat were given these attributes that later, during the christianization of the western world, became the epitome of ungodly behavior with their wild, untamed lifestyle and their focus on earthly pleasures. In the bible, the goat is used as a symbol for the sinners and the damned in contrast to the lamb, symbolizing the blessed, that will ascent to the heavens after the Last Judgment. This demonisation of the goat and its connection to the Antichrist has been the reason why people who stepped away from the christian belief, were thought to worship the goat. There are numerous paintings that show witches during their Sabbats, worshiping a goat or riding on the horned animals.
