Art Print Set “Salome and Judith” - Diptych

The depiction of Salome and Judith has always been very similar: two women – both exceptionally beautiful, yet deadly dangerous – holding the severed head of a bearded man. If we dive beneath this visual surface we can easily see that despite the superficial similarities, those two figures are like two opposite poles. Salome, the “femme fatale” of the New Testament is described as the sinful woman living a life in luxury and vanity while Judith of the Old Testament is the fierce and virtuous widow, who fights for her and her peoples freedom. Yet both are deeply fascinating in their own way and both had a great influence in a male-dominated society.
