Fine Art Print 'Self-Reflection'
Observing the self from a distance. Watching down on your actions, reflecting on your own thoughts, contemplating on your emotions from the point of an objective spectator are steps that lead to self-knowledge and with it: freedom. Only by knowing where your feelings, thoughts and actions come from and what their consequences are you don't let yourself be possessed by your ego, but rather in charge of controlling what you let yourself be concerned with and what you're inviting into your life and thus also into the life of those close to you. This separation of the ego and id from the super-ego (to put it in Freud's words) through introspection is very literally depicted in this illustration, where the "physical body" is separated from the "mind", while both are facing at each other.
The depiction is inspired by Gustave Doré.
